Clean Air

We all have the right to breathe clean air

Our goal is to make the invisible visible through real-time air quality data—empowering collaboration and action to reduce pollution and safeguard community health.

Why Measure Air Quality?

Chemical releases into the environment may cause adverse human and environmental health effects over time that include asthma, reduced lung function, heart disease, stroke, cancer, bronchitis and diabetes.

Pollutants in our air originate from many types of sources. Understanding the nature, level, and sources of air pollution that are affecting our health requires real-time data. Current monitoring isn’t enough.

Conserve Nassau is working with others in the community toward better understanding of atmospheric toxic chemicals and particulate matter emissions through encouraging city and county monitoring and by direct purchase of air quality monitors and data analyses.

Real-time alerts help people with lung or heart conditions safely enjoy outdoor activities.

Protects families & neighborhoods by identifying pollutants affecting children, the elderly, and pets.

Improve industry response. Data transparency encourages industries with a good neighbor policy to reduce emissions with improved technology.

Improve tourist experiences. Noxious odors impact tourism, our main economic driver.

Benefits of Air Quality Monitoring

Toxics Release Inventory, Nassau County, Florida and Camden County, Georgia
7 Facilities, 2021-2023, 30 Chemicals Reported
Self-reporting : Green squares are facilities not required to report to TRI.

Air Pollution Monitoring

PM 2.5 is a small diameter particulate and dangerous air pollutant according to the EPA. Like carbon monoxide it generally has no odor, however, unlike carbon monoxide, it crosses directly into the bloodstream and into the brain and nervous system. PM 2.5 causes inflammation of bodily tissues.

Conserve Nassau is currently installing a limited number of more advanced sensors in Fernandina Beach to monitor additional air-borne toxins that may be present in our community - "What can we track?". With citizen support we look forward to expanding air pollution monitoring on the island and across the bridge to the mainland side of the Amelia River and along A200.

If you smell gaseous odors, feel ill as a result, find your property covered with particulate matter, are disturbed by plant noise or have other pollution concerns, it is important that you report these issues.

Without formal documentation, we have no evidence that the community perceives a problem. Report air problems, odors or concerns to:
